With careful management of plantar fasciitis, it is possible to walk again without pain
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. It is caused by a process where the main tendon in your foot- the plantar fascia- wears and becomes inflamed at the insertion into your heel bone.
Plantar Fasciitis Symptoms
Heel pain is the cardinal symptom. This is most common on the first few steps after sitting for a prolonged period, or after sleeping. This can be quite intense initially, but usually eases over the next few minutes so it is tolerable, and the person is unaware until the next time they rest again.
Plantar Fasciitis Causes
Complex factors causes the tendon insertion to degrade and heal poorly, lessening its resistance to the forces it is subjected to in walking. It is common following starting a high intensity exercise program, or sometimes a gradual increase in walking- often in poor or not supportive shoes.
Plantar Fasciitis Risk Factors
Flat feet, poor foot and leg strength, obesity, sudden increase in activity and having had other episodes of tendonitis increase the risk of suffering this painful condition.
