Pain in the front of your hips?
Hip pain, hip joint impingement or Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) is becoming more prominent these days as we are seeing more and more people coming into the clinic with complaints in the front of the hip that sometimes can wrap around towards the back of the hip, into the back or buttock or even in the thigh.
FAI can sometimes be mistaken as lower back pain or sacroiliac pain and vice versa. If left untreated, this condition will result in early osteoarthritis, hip replacement, severe groin and buttock pain, and limited and painful range of motion.
Anterior hip pain is more due to muscular imbalance around the hip joint.
Why is this occurring? Ultimately it’s down to jobs and activities that have us sitting for longer, more often. This can cause tightness in and around the smaller muscles in the hip, resulting in restricted and painful hip joints.
Here are some common complaints:
- Pinching
- Clicking
- Catching
- Locking
- Stiffness
- Restricted motion during certain movements
What will an Osteopath do to ease hip pain?
It is important to see a professional to identify your muscular imbalances. Your Osteo will run a series of diagnostic tests in the clinic to help identify if it is truly FAI that you have, and what the root cause of it might be. We then begin a conservative approach to improve hip mobility through muscle releases, joint mobilisation, joint stability, neuromuscular control exercises and improvements in motor and movement patterns.
Make an appointment today to see one of our Osteopaths and discuss how we can create an individualised plan to get you back to optimum health.
